Cape Town - US rapper Snoop Dogg surprised fans when he ditched his usual sensual and seductive lyrics for a gospel album.
The 46-year-old decided to reach a new audience with his first gospel record, Bible of Love.
Billboard reported the album, which dropped early last month, features music heavyweights such as Faith Evans, Tye Tribbett, Rance Allen and The Clark Sisters.
According to Essence , in a recent interview as a guest on the Hollywood Confidential panel series in Las Vegas, Snoop said he created the album to bring more light to the world.
“With all of the negativity happening in the world right now I figured it was time to do something positive to bring people together," he said.
"I did my share of bringing dark moments. Now it’s time to bring the light."
The first single, Words are Few, features B Slade, and Snoop and Slade can be seen performing the song in church in the track’s music video.
According to Rolling Stone, the Sexual Seduction hit-maker hinted at recording a gospel album during an interview with Beats last year.
“It's always been on my heart. I just never got around to it because I always be doing 'gangsta' business or doing this or doing that. I just felt like it's been on my heart too long. I need to do it now," Snoop reportedly said.
