Cape Town - It was gleeful celebration as the exuberant sounds of the Grammy award winning Soweto Gospel choir filled the arrivals hall at the O.R Tambo International airport on Friday morning.

Ecstatic choir members waited with much anticipation for the group that had gone the USA to represent them at the Grammy awards, which were held last Sunday.

Upon arrival Mulalo Mulovhedzi, Mary Mulovhedzi and Shimmy Jiyane were greeted with a welcome that was like no other from their prior Grammy wins.

Speaking to DRUM Mulalo, son of the late David Mulovhedzi, who co-founded the group 17-years ago, said this was exactly what his father would have envisioned for the group. “My father has always been a community builder and leader, growing up in Xawela, our home was always a home for the community. He had a soccer team and a clap and tap choir that’s where the dream started.”
