The Samas 2019 are happening soon and here's everything you need to know

Cape Town - The South African Music Awards are taking place on 31 May and 1 June in Sun City and boasts some of the biggest names in the country on the line-up. 

The awards comprise of two events - the Industry Awards will be broadcast on Friday, 31 May 2019 and the main awards will be broadcast on Saturday, 1 June 2019.

There are some great not-to-be-missed moments and delightful surprises in store for those in the Super Bowl and viewers on SABC1 and YouTube and Muze. 

We've rounded up all the information about the big night, from the artists being honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards, to the hosts, the live performances and where you can watch everything go down. 

THE NOMINEES:

Local DJ Black Coffee leads the pack with an impressive five nods, followed closely by Sjava with four nominations for Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Best Afro Pop Album and Best Engineer.

Another artist with four nods is Sho Madjozi with nominations for Female Artist of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Best Kwaito/ Gqom/ Amapiano Album for Limpopo Champions League and Music Video of the Year for Huku.

THE HOSTS: 

The hosts of the Samas will be Broadcast veteran Bob Mabena and news reader Melanie Bala. The legendary pair's hosting duties tie into this year's theme which organisers say will be reminiscent of the 90s, the early 2000s and now.

THE PERFORMANCES:

The organisers have promised to go back in time with old school tunes in a 'throwback' segment with memorable tracks performed by legendary bands Bongo Maffin and Trompies and many more kwaito legends.

On the traditional front, viewers can look forward to a medley of dance and vocals led by the legend of the bow and arrow Madosini as well as the iconic Mahotella Queens.

The Samas 2019 will take place on 31 May and 1 June in Sun City, North West province.

It will be broadcast on Saturday on SABC1 at 20:00 as well as on Muze and YouTube at 20:00.
