Lifetime TV channel’s long-awaited docuseries Surviving R Kelly, which explores the various sexual assault allegations against the singer, has caused a flurry on social media.

Many Twitter users were left reeling after watching the premiere, the first of a three-part series, in which a spate of men and women, including R Kelly’s ex-wife Andrea Kelly, get candid on their experiences with the singer.

Shortly after the episode aired tweeps took to their timelines to vent at the lack of protection and support provided to R Kelly’s alleged victims.

“An entire generation glorified that man. Protected him. Made excuses for him. Supported him. From parents, media outlets, teachers, fans etc. Straight trash. Don’t ever complain about millennials,” one user wrote.

Last year the Backyard Party hitmaker released a 19 minute song in which he confessed to sleeping with young girls and revealed he was raped as a child.

According to COS, Lady Gaga, Dave Chappelle and Jay-Z where amongst a number of artists invited to take part in the docuseries, but only John Legend agreed to be part of the exposé.
