Drake skipped the MTV VMA’s to fulfil sick girl’s dream of visiting her on her birthday.
Sofia Sanchez, an 11-year-old who’s awaiting a heart transplant, saw one of her wishes coming true when she was visited by the God’s Plan rapper at the Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago on Monday 20 August, Daily Mail reports.
This comes after Sofia’s video of her dancing to the In My Feelings song by Drake made its rounds on YouTube. She’s also expressed two wishes: a new heart, and to meet Drake.
The little girl suffers from cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle that makes it harder for your heart to pump blood to the rest of your body, according to Mayo Clinic.
“Oh my God,” Sophia screamed as Drake walked into her room.
“You asked me to come. I’m here, what’s up?” Drake said to her.
Sofia was so overwhelmed that she was unable to speak for the first few minutes. Drake gave Sofia some of his merchandise and even sang his hit song God’s Plan to her.
“It was a miracle that I met him. He’s one of the first wishes I got in a long time,” Sofia said in a sweet thank-you video posted by the hospital.
“You wanna give me a hug or what?” the rapper said to Sofia, to which she replied, “Yes please.”
“I’m so happy I got to see you,” Drake went on to tell the Sofia. “I’m so happy you came,” she replied.
Drake shared a cute picture on Instagram of him and Sofia together.
“Me and my love Sofia talking about Bieber and owls and basketball,” Drake wrote.
Sophia’s cardiologist, Dr Bradley Marino, told People Magazine that meeting Drake helped Sophia take her mind off her heart condition.
“Having this one special day where she doesn’t have to be a sick patient and doesn’t have to be a girl waiting for a heart . . . It’s just a little girl who’s a fan of a great artist. It’s pretty special,” Dr Bradley said.
Sofia underwent open-heart surgery three weeks ago to connect a mechanical pump to help support her heart and blood flow, Abc News reports. She’s still waiting for a new heart.
