WATCH: Taylor Swift's colourful new music video is packed with A-list stars and LGBTQ icons

Cape Town - Taylor Swift has joined forces with a bevy of A-listers and LGBTQ figures for the music video of her new song, You Need to Calm Down.

The new song, which is being released during Pride Month in the States, is the second single from her newly announced album, Lover.

The song takes a stand against homophobes and haters and shows it support to the LGBTQ community as well as GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. At the end of the video Taylor asks her fans to please sign her Change.org petition for Senate support of the Equality Act.

"Our country’s lack of protection for its own citizens ensures that LGBTQ people must live in fear that their lives could be turned upside down by an employer or landlord who is homophobic or transphobic. The fact that, legally, some people are completely at the mercy of the hatred and bigotry of others is disgusting and unacceptable," Taylor writes in the description of the petition.

She adds: "Let’s show our pride by demanding that, on a national level, our laws truly treat all of our citizens equally."

The colourful video includes cameos by celebs like RuPaul, Ellen Degeneres, Laverne Cox, Queer Eye's Fab Five, Ciara, Ryan Reynolds, and even Katy Perry.
