Johannesburg - Monique Steyn and Demi Lee Moore, contestants in Afrikaans TV singing competition Die Kontrak (The Contract), have caused a buzz with their cover of the pop-country hit Diane.

The duo performed it in the episode of the show broadcast on 7 November on VIA (DStv channel 147).

Even the creator of the song has taken note of the pair’s performance. Popular US singer-songwriter Cam had a hit earlier this year with Diane, which she’d co-written. It’s about a woman who starts a relationship with man she doesn’t realise is married.

Cam saw Monique and Demi Lee’s performance in Die Kontrak on social media and was excited to learn her hit was being performed in South Africa.

She shared the news on Instagram and Twitter.

Demi Lee Moore, a professional singer and musician from Durbanville, Cape Town, is one of Die Kontrak’s top three contestants. She was blown away by the news that Cam had shared on Instagram that she’d heard Demi and Monique’s duet.

“How crazy is that?” Demi Lee says. “I can’t believe it. I only saw it about 10 hours after she posted it. It’s insane!”
