We chat to local songstress Jamie-Lee Sexton about her first solo release

Cape Town - Jamie-Lee Sexton founded The Sextons in 2014, and after a magical musical journey, Jamie-Lee has made the decision to rebrand herself as a solo artist.

Today sees the release of her first single, titled Magic, which is also the title of her debut EP.

We had a chat with Jamie-Lee about her new release and going solo.

Check it out below:

What made you decide to become a solo artist?

This newfound direction is about reinventing myself as an artist with a renewed energy and vision.
It was a decision based on pursuing and achieving my personal goals. I have always been a solo artist at heart. Jamie-Lee Sexton as a brand is my passion and always was, and today I want to dedicate my time and energy towards this change.

What is the most challenging part of releasing music as a solo artist versus as a band?

I think releasing music in general is not always an easy process be it in a band or as a solo artist.
You are painting your life experiences on a canvas for the world to see and that is the exciting part and at times also the scary part. But I strongly believe that having the best around you will result in the best possible outcome.

What inspired your new single, Magic?

Magic was inspired by the magic of life that I experience every day. People inspired this song!
The song is my musical translation of how I envisioned magic since a child up until today.

Describe your sound in one sentence.

Oooh....My music is vibrant, thought provoking, entertaining and if you would like to, I invite you to join me on a musical journey you will never forget.

When can fans expect your EP to drop and what’s next for you?

I am initially releasing a couple of singles after Magic and there after the complete EP will be revealed in mid 2018. A lot is in the works at the moment, I will be performing at some awesome music festivals including Oppikoppi and White Mountain. Also look out for the Nationwide tour which is in the pipeline.
