We fell in love with Red Robyn and Luh'ra at a one-night-only show in Cape Town

Cape Town - It’s been one of the coldest weeks in the Mother City of the year where temperatures failed to reach the high teens.

So, what better way to go into a payday weekend than with live music?

Durban’s own Red Robyn popped into the western region for a quick one-night show, teaming up with Cape Town's Luh'ra.

Hosted at the Market House in Green Market Square the warm setting was comfortable and inviting with pillows and blankets scattered all over the intimate room. With soup and wine offered to the crowd, Luh'ra opened the evening with her soft angelic tone while strumming her fresh-looking gold guitar. After each song, the audience could ask the artists their burning questions, which gave the evening a refreshing feel.

Luh'ra, who released her debut six-track EP called Luv in February, touched on being an independent artist, letting go of being a full-time architect and following her dream. "I wrote this song when I decided that I wasn’t going to do architecture anymore," Luh’ra said as she answered questions.

"And I was about to start stepping into music, so I was quite scared and nervous."

Soon after, Red Robyn graced the stage with her powerful voice in only her second time in the Cape. She also supported Luh’ra on her mini-tour of Durban and Johannesburg earlier this year.

Robyn, who grew up inspired by Paramore, Hillsong United and "mostly" Alicia Keys, released her first music video last month called The Pits

"I grew up Christian so lots of Gospel music. My parents didn’t allow us to listen to anything that wasn’t gospel so anything that I wasn’t gospel that I listened to was on the DL (down low)," the singer-songwriter laughingly shared with the crowd. The multi-instrumentalist is set to return to KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend, but she has some exciting things planned for the rest of the year.

The 24-year-old won the 2018 AFROPUNK Battle of the Bands Finals and got to grace the same stage as American band The Internet, world-renowned bassist Thundercat and producer/DJ Kaytranada and many other artists.

Meanwhile, Luh’ra is set to perform at the Two Oceans Aquarium on Wednesday, 31 July, alongside the soulful Manny Walters.
