We unpack how Kim defended Kanye in beef with Rhymefest

Cape Town - In case you’ve been away from social media this weekend and are wondering what the Twitter beef is between Kim Kardashian-West and Kanye West’s old collaborator rapper Rhymefest, here’s a break down of the who, the how, the when and the why of everything.

It all started with a non-profit organisation in Chicago, created in the name of Kanye's late mother, called Donda’s house.

WHAT IS DONDA'S HOUSE AND WHO IS RHYMEFEST?

Rhymefest is a Chicago rapper. He co-wrote Kanye’s first big hit Jesus Walks and also helped found Donda’s House which is an arts-based, youth-focused non-profit organisation in the windy city.

HOW THE BEEF STARTED

On Saturday, Rhymefest tweeted a message to Drake (who is in his own beef with Kanye and Pusha T) asking for financial support to "rebuild Kanye's mother's house for the youth of Chicago."

In his tweet, Rhymefest also said he had spoken to Kanye about supporting the house but got a negative response.

KIM KARDASHIAN WEST’S RESPONSE ON TWITTER:

Kanye West’s wife of four years, Kim Kardashian West then responded to Rhymefest’s tweets with a series of tweets of her own.

Kim tweeted the following on Saturday to the rapper: “U haven’t been right since u got kicked out of the studio in Hawaii wearing fake Yeezy’s @RHYMEFEST  You’re over levergenging Kanye’s name & asked Kanye to donate money to u so stop w your fake community politics & lies. Truth is you haven’t been able to sustain the foundation.

"You have the audacity to use Kanye’s mom name to try to shead [sic] a negative light on Kanye," she continued, after attacking his "sub par beats."

The mother of three then also added that she hoped one day her children would run the foundation, before tweeting that Rhymefest was no longer welcome in Wyoming — where Kanye is currently with the family, finishing up his album in a compound.

THEN RHYMEFEST RESPONDED IN OFFICIAL STATEMENT:

Rhymefest then sent an open letter sent via to Kim, discussing his recent conversations with Kanye and more.

In the letter he said in: "How can you criticize an organization that you've never physically been to or that you've never even talked to the Executive Director or any of the team…

"At this point, if you and Kanye want us to dissolve the organization so you can do the work, we welcome that," he wrote, saying that the work he has done with the community will continue "in spite of you and Kanye's lack of interest or support."

RHYMEFEST’S FINAL STATEMENT:

In a final statement to Kanye and Kim, Donda's House announced that because of the tweets from Kim, the organisation would be moving forward with a different name.

"Over the last five years we have put our students and our community first," the statement read, thanking the City of Chicago and supporters for their help. "We encourage Kim and Kanye to indeed pick up the baton of service."

Following that final statement Kim decided to break everything down, from her perspective, for her followers on Twitter.

She started off saying: "Let me break this all the way down ... Kanye and Donda started  a charity called Loop Dreams. When Donda passed, they changed the name to Donda’s House. Kanye paid Rhymefest a salary to run it. After several years of lack of performance from the organization and Kanye going through personal financial issues, he could no longer fund salaries. Rhymefest asked to take it over and Kanye agreed with no financial strings attached."

The make-up mogul then went on to unpack what else happened to lead to the war of words and how she feels about it.

At the time of writing Kanye has yet to speak for himself about the organisation, his frequent collaborator's statements, or his wife's tweets.
