Cape Town - The Twitterverse had its feathers ruffled after some Nedbank clients reported that they received an e-mail from the bank stating that they can buy tickets to Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100.
The festival will be headlined by Beyoncé and Jay-Z as well as a galaxy of other stars, both local and international.
Some Twitter users doubted the authenticity of the Nedbank e-mail as the festival has been promoted as a free-ticketed event.
Channel24 can confirm that the e-mail is authentic and select Nedbank clients can indeed buy tickets to the festival.
HERE'S WHY! GLOBAL CITIZEN EXPLAINS IT ALL:
A large percentage of tickets for the event, which will take place on Sunday, 2 December 2018 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, are free but a small amount have been bought by corporate sponsors according to Andrew Kirk, global director for corporate communications at the organisation.
Andrew explains: "70% of tickets will be earned by global citizens who take action. The remaining tickets are private sales through our partners to cover production costs and our campaigns. All artists attending are donating their time to global citizen, and perform for free."
One of those partners is South African bank Nedbank.
Responding to a Twitter user, Hugh Evans - founder CEO of Global Citizen - tweeted: "Sign up and become a Global Citizen today and you will be the first to be notified once action journeys commence on August 21st. There are a limited number of premium tickets available via pre-sale for Nedbank employees and customers starting from Wednesday, 11 July."
Channel24 also reached out to Nedbank for comment and senior communications manager Joanne Isaacs confirmed that the email was sent from the company.
