A live-stream concert, featuring some of South Africa's top artists, will aim to bring relief, to people who are in isolation because of Covid-19.

As a result of the global pandemic, on Sunday President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a national state of disaster, prohibiting gatherings of more than 100 people and implemented domestic and international travel restrictions.

The Afrikaans Gaan Global concert series will take place on 28 March, 4 April and 11 April - broadcast live to viewers around the world.

Afrikaans Gaan Global will be the first of its kind in South Africa and will be streamed from Weiveld to the world.

"So many events have been cancelled, and there are few people who will not be affected by this pandemic. This is a wonderful initiative, and we as South African artists now have the opportunity to stand together and make a difference," said Kurt Darren.

Darren is one of the artists that will be part of this concert, and more artists will be announced soon.

As many festivals and visual media production schedules have been postponed due to the growing number of reported coronavirus cases, local entertainers, including South African actor Rob van Vuuren has expressed anxiety about their stream of income.

In addition, Samro has appealed to financial institutions to be lenient on artists amid the on-going restrictions on the entertainment industry.
