Amy Winehouse's ex denies rape charge

London - Reg Traviss has pleaded not guilty to rape.

The director and the former boyfriend of late singer Amy Winehouse appeared at London's Southwark Crown Court where he denied two counts of rape on New Year's Eve 2011.

Traviss is bailed until 10 December 2012 when he will face a three-day trial.

Woman testifies her story

The 35-year-old film maker was formally charged under his full name Reginald in June after a woman alleged she got drunk on a night out and the next thing she remembers was him having sex with her, the court heard.

Rebecca Mundy a lawyer for the Crown Prosecution Service said in June: "I have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Reginald Traviss with two counts of rape.

"The alleged offences took place between 29 December 2011 and 1 January 2012. The decision was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors," she explained.

The sexual assault was first reported on 18 January and Traviss was arrested on 5 April by the Metropolitan Police.
