Charlize's baby is American - report

2012-03-14 22:13
Cape Town - Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron's adopted baby boy was born in the United States, and is African-American, according to a report.

The 36-year-old South African-born star's publicist released a statement saying "she is the proud mom of a healthy baby boy named Jackson".

A source told Us Weekly that little Jackson, Theron's first child, was born in the United States, and is African-American.

"She has always wanted to be a mom. She is glad to be able to do it on her own now and is so happy to be a mom," the source told the celebrity gossip magazine.

The never-married beauty split with actor Stuart Townsend in January 2010 after nine years together.

The break-up prompted a whole new chapter in her life, telling the December 2011 issue of Vogue, "This is the first time [being single] in my life. From the time I was 19, I've been in relationships, literally gone from one to the other within a month."

In the interview, she admitted she was eager to start a family.

"I do want to have kids, yeah," she told the magazine. "I always have. I've never had a rush for it, a moment where I really wanted to do it. I don't have a panic about it.”

Twitter was abuzz with congratulations for the celebrity.

Mel Huang tweeted, "Congrats to Charlize Theron for adopting child from the US. Too many celebs forget there are so many children that need love here in the US."

Ahmed said, "congrats to Charlize Theron, our fellow Safrican who just became a mum. Adopted a baby named Jackson".

Karen tweeted. “So Charlize Theron has joined the "adopt a baby" brigade is Hollywood. Ho hum."

Starcasm said, "Congrats to Charlize Theron on adopting a baby boy - I hope he never sees mommy in 'Monster'."

It's Me Rebecca tweeted, "I want Charlize Theron to be my mom omfg that kid is really lucky.”

Brandon Mitchell  asked, "Will Charlize Theron's baby have to go to a dialect coach to learn to pronounce his mother's last name?"

A user calling himself Peter de Villiers tweeted, "Charlize adopted a baby and named him Jackson. Jackson Theron.....sounds like a mechanic from Benoni. #roots."

Theron won an Academy Award for her role as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in 2003's Monster.

She was also nominated for an Oscar for 2005's North Country.

Of course the boy had to be black, because God forbid white people would adopt white children. In my mind she is not a mom, merely a parent who found it convenient to 'buy' a child rather than have one because I guess she is just too special to go through the whole hassle of a pregnancy.

      Adil Smit - 2012-03-15 00:45

Wow, so mothers that have adopted babies are not real mothers? You don't know why she adopted. Don't be so quick to judge.

      elewies - 2012-03-15 08:43

      Your comment DISGUST me

      Warmonger - 2012-03-15 09:15

My question is What is the great fascination with adopting black babies? Is it just a ‘status symbol’ for white wannabee [celebrity??] parents, because I have NEVER seen or heard of black parents adopting a white baby… Is it because there are no white babies available for adoption? Or dare I ask whether there is just an oversupply of black babies available for adoption?

      Merven - 2012-03-15 09:42

@Warmonger, it is a fashion statement, like having a Chihuahua on your arm in the 90ties or bell bottom pants in the 70ties.

      Nyiks11 - 2012-03-15 09:44

Lionel Richie is black and he adopted a white baby , so what

      hayden.cajee - 2012-03-15 12:12

Well Leendert, ITS OFFICIAL, you an IDIOT!!

      Gofuq - 2012-03-15 15:29

going through pregnancy would ruin her figure.i love how kids have become accessories.before going out...i black kid...check.

      GrootWitHaai - 2012-03-15 17:50

What is it with her and Jennifer Aniston..two of the prettiest women in Hollywood and neither can find a suitable dude to impregnate them. Nature is trying to tell them're too selfish to be a mother.

  • brionyl.french - 2012-03-15 06:12

I think its great, but did she maybe not adopt an american baby so she can get her residency or something? And Leendert, your an absolute retard!!!

      elewies - 2012-03-15 08:44

Check your facts before making a comment that makes you look completely stupid- Charlize doesn't need to adopt to get residency, she has American CITIZENSHIP

  • Bronwyn Koch - 2012-03-15 06:40

if she is South African why doesnt she adopt a South African baby? Its not like we don't have thousands of orphans in our country?

      Heather - 2012-03-15 07:32

      Susan - 2012-03-16 08:41

Because the people who controlls adoption in SA don't want babies to be adopted. It takes years to be accepted and more often than not the people who wants to adopt are told they are to old to adopt.

  • Danielle - 2012-03-15 07:43

Im sorry- how is an South African orphan any worse than an american one- the just of it is- its still a child. An innocent human being, who needed love and didnt have any. Who cares where he was born. And who cares that he's black? Geez people, arent you ashamed of making something that is actually a good thing, into something negative. Adopting is a big deal- for anyone- and really who she decided to make a lifelong commitment to like that- is no one's business. Next you'll be saying people who immigrate should come back to SA to find someone to marry too- heaven forbid they marry someone from elsewhere- we have single men and women here too. Grow up.

      Heather - 2012-03-15 11:59

Danielle. Please! The chances are that our thousands and thousands of orphans in this country stand very little chance of ever getting adopted unlike in America and your last statement is not even relevant.

  • Naghings - 2012-03-15 08:21

I guess in a way Charlize is also African American. Kinda cool. :)

      Warmonger - 2012-03-15 09:21

      Witty!! Ha!

  • Olive - 2012-03-15 08:23

Of course these white "movie stars" only adopt black babies, do black "movie stars" adopt white children NO!!! this is only for attention God Forbid they adopt a white baby that's not the fashion and isn't making a statement even though there must be many white babies looking for homes. Don't get me wrong it just seems that all they want is - look how good and kind I am I adopted a black child!!!!

      elewies - 2012-03-15 08:48

Haters gonna be haters. Why don't you wish her well? She just changed an orphan's life FOREVER.

      Warmonger - 2012-03-15 09:18

Indeed Olive, but if one queries ANYTHING around or regarding the adoption of a black baby (by white parent(s)) one is labeld as a 'racist', 'hater', and whotnot...

      Nyiks11 - 2012-03-15 09:35

Dear Olive Did it ever strike you that people adopt children out of love regardless of their race ?

      Merven - 2012-03-15 09:45

@elewies, the question is, did she do it for the child or to be fashionable and 'in'?

  • Nyiks11 - 2012-03-15 08:57

C'mon Charlize , why not adopt a South African baby . . . atleast one of Steve Hoffmeyr's many kids

      Warmonger - 2012-03-15 09:21

As far as I know Steve takes care of his own kids!! You see he is not one of those "pop-them-out-&-drop-them-off" types... Maybe "some" of us should start to follow his example!! (the have them and CARE FOR THEM YOURSELF part).

      Nyiks11 - 2012-03-15 09:29

Warmonger Steve is following in Zuma's path , I don't want to follow their example

  • Se-a Spencer Ikeremm - 2012-03-15 10:38

I'm happy she decided to take a child in. Lord knows more people need to do that. It should not matter where the child is from. And maybe she didn't want the trouble of having to keep up with "where the child comes from", she lives in the US, get a US child, Angelina must be having a tough time having to do all that. Imagine is she adopted a Zulu child, we'd be looking at her expecting her to hire a live-in Zulu tutor, a live-in Zulu cuisine expert, an unnecessary hassle. And hey, I don't see any of the celebs we have here adopting kids, why tf expect Charlize to fly all the way!? Amor should set an example, Connie should set an example... I'm sure Charlize already does enough for local charities.

  • Herman - 2012-03-15 11:25

No Wonder this world is in such a mess! Does not matter what anybody do, we will always find wrong with it! Instead of adding to a ever expanding population she is taking a child, and that is all that counts, and is giving the child a future. Nothing else matters! All of you that are so "why is she not taking a South African baby", show me yours that you have adopted and is giving it a promising future then carry on, other wise keep your trap shut! We should all be saluting her for giving a child a bright and promising future. Who cares if the baby is white, black, pink or yellow, it is a baby and it did not ask to be here or to be any colour of choice, it is just one person making a difference to one child's life. Well done Charlize you are making a difference in this world of ours.

  • Olive - 2012-03-15 11:41

@elewies&@Mgayi - my remark was NOT RACIST - so get off your high horses - i was pointing out that the movie stars are only after publicity or attention seekers. @Merven and @Warmonger - spot on you knew exactly where i was coming from. Typical SA scream the racist card - so sick of this now after 19 years of "freedom" this card is played over and over by some insecure people

      Nyiks11 - 2012-03-15 12:21

in that case then you completely misunderstood me

  • Gofuq - 2012-03-15 15:30
