Fast and Furious actor Paul Walker dies

2013-12-01 07:12
Los Angeles - Paul Walker, one of the stars of the popular Fast and Furious fast-car action movies, died in an auto crash on Saturday, his publicists said on his social media accounts.

"It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organisation Reach Out Worldwide," read the posting on the actor's Facebook account.

"He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives."

The publicists, who described themselves as Team PW, wrote that they were "stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news".

A similar message was posted on Twitter.

Walker, 40, was best known for his role as undercover agent Brian O'Connor in the Fast and Furious movies.

He appeared in all but one of the six movies in the series, and was one of the leading protagonists along with Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez.

Walker died in Los Angeles county when the car he was travelling in slammed into a tree and caught fire, US media reported.

RIP in peace dude - you will be missed.

      Boaz Yarmarkov - 2013-12-01 16:37

Died in a 4.4million rand porsche carrera gt. (the mags the only remaining clue) Like in his movies, lived life on the edge, fast and furious. Another great actor lost. May they both rest in peace.

      JamesBlacksmith - 2013-12-01 20:00

An actor I liked and saddened by his death. I think a point needs to be here that no-one wants to make. It is sad that a person loses his life over reckless driving. We can only be thankful that it was only the occupants in the car (and not a mother and her children as well) that died. RIP.

      Andrew Terr - 2013-12-01 22:56

He is no Jimmy Dean but damn ,another Porsche fatality.

      Themba Maseko - 2013-12-02 06:13

I wonder if he would have lost control if he was a driver? I'm damn angry, I watched the f&f 6 so many times no knowing that it was my last time watching him 'alive'

Fast and Furious will never be the same !!! Rest in Peace DUDE

      Slow Poizn - 2013-12-02 14:14

ride or die!!! we will never forget!

      Rocco DeWet - 2013-12-03 04:30

He was a great, attractive guy, and he will be sorely missed. But let us not forget that his death was preventable. Taking into account the quality of our roads in this country, the speed limit has always been too high. The N1 and N2 are certainly no Autobahns. Most of us thus drive like speed demons compared to some other First World countries, while we often conveniently scapegoat the minibus taxi industry. We are all to blame. RIP Mr. Walker. May your tragic message about the consequences of speed not be missed on our more immature drivers. The odds of surviving a high speed accident is low. Speed kills, even the Hollywood celebrities.

Tragic news to wake up to this morning. RIP.

  • SunshinyDay - 2013-12-01 08:01

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get plenty of thumbs down for this, but how come when it's an ordinary person the comment sections have remarks like how the person must have been drunk to drive into a tree, trees don't just appear out of nowhere, how fast were they going that this happened, etc but when it's someone you have seen on TV it's sad? I don't get it.

      Natalie Lourens - 2013-12-01 08:23

I'm pretty sure you don't have to repeat yourself twice we all hear you...

      SunshinyDay - 2013-12-01 08:39

Yeah Natalie, the comment took forever to appear so excuse me for thinking it wasn't going to appear. Rudeness isn't necessary.

      Andrea Tomasicchio - 2013-12-01 08:57

Well negativity comes in all forms including your comment!

      Natalie Lourens - 2013-12-01 09:31

Well my dear reading both comments which are different from each other , it looked like you had to repeat yourself...

      Nicola Erasmus856 - 2013-12-01 13:56

From both you're comments I get the idea that you might have had a bad experience with a drunk driver and you have good reason to have. But it's an awful generalization to imply that all accidents happen because of drunk drivers.

      Sunshiny Day - 2013-12-02 08:51

Natalie, I typed this on my phone, even if I typed from a PC if I would have had to retyped unless I copied the text first. Does it matter if it wasn't the same word for word? Good grief.

      Renier van Rooyen - 2013-12-02 10:07

you idiot, the driver lost control and hit a lamp post. Not a tree Even the reporters for N24 ,I think half a brick has more brains than you lot

  • Nick Rogerson - 2013-12-01 08:02

Rest in peace brother. You are a legend

  • Roger Plaatjies - 2013-12-01 08:03

  • Charmaine Van Vollenhoven Jennings - 2013-12-01 08:11

    Saddest news!!! RIP

  • Solja Silas Chauke - 2013-12-01 08:12

    Rest in peace paul

  • SunshinyDay - 2013-12-01 08:12

I'm sure I am going to be quite unpopular with comment, but why when it's an actor, then the comments are filled with condolences and such? When it's an ordinary person, there would be comments about how fast were they driving, how drunk were they, oh look what time they where driving, etc. Basically, there isn't any fault when it's a famous person but when it's anyone else then it MUST have been speed or drunk driving?

      Bob Wowzer - 2013-12-01 08:29

What I want to know is why do people slobber condolences and such in the first place? Do they revel in such massive delusions of self-importance that they believe the affected families: (a) care about sympathy from people who didn't even know the person personally, this insincerity of which really adds insult to injury; and (b) would go through the time and effort to visit the relevant articles on N24 just to see their (sym)pathetic comments?

      Toofaan Monsoon - 2013-12-01 08:29

That is not an entirely fair comment. Whether we like it or not famous people tend to be role models. Also, we tend to vilify them even more when we seem to know that they're at fault. Example is JubJub. Also, (again like it or not), ordinary people are more interested in famous people and it sells. In this case Walker seems to have been a passenger so I could argue that it was not his fault at all and anyway taking out a tree has not affected anyone as much as knocking over a pedestrian. RIP Paul Walker.

      John Butler - 2013-12-01 08:32

If you need to ask that question then maybe you need to read up on basic psychology.

  • Nicholas Muller - 2013-12-01 08:13

shocking news, sad very sad ,rest in peace brother ,will surely be missed

  • Nonhlanhla Mogane - 2013-12-01 08:36

to all the trolls on here, Paul was a passenger in that car, so keep all the speed kills unfunny jokes and sarcasm to yourselves. R.I.P Paul, fast & furious will never be the same without you. I'm so sad right now, I really liked Brian

      SunshinyDay - 2013-12-01 08:41

You've obviously never seen the Arrive Alive adverts. Passengers are also responsible, if they willingly get into a car with a drunk driver or if they don't tell the driver to slow down or whatever.

  • Bob Wowzer - 2013-12-01 08:38

He only just died now, but the F&F franchise already died a couple of movies ago.

  • LizK - 2013-12-01 08:44

If you read the article properly you will see that he was not even driving. Without enough facts on how it even happened, perhaps you should reserve your unnecessary judgement.
