Jakarta - Indonesian fans of Lady Gaga sang and danced on Sunday in Jakarta to protest the cancellation of the US singer's concert, local media reported.
Gaga was supposed to perform at Jakarta's Bung Karno stadium as part of The Born This Way Ball tour but she decided to cancel the show after a local hardline Islamist group threatened to stop it.
Fans gathered at the Bung Karno Stadium, with some bringing flowers to protest "the death of freedom of expression", The Jakarta Post reported.
Other fans, clad in black, staged a rally in front of the Presidential Palace, demanding that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono ensure freedom of expression.
They performed a flash-mob dance and stamped their handprints with colourful paint on a large poster of Lady Gaga emblazoned with "Little Monsters' tribute to diversity."
"The cancellation was not merely an assault to our idol, but also to the values that she promotes through her music such as equality, humanism, diversity and compassion," Fia Rahmatia, founder of Gaga's Twitter fan-base @IndoProGaga, was quoted as saying by the Post.
