New York - Monopoly is set to be turned into a movie.
The popular property development board game - along with Hungry Hippos and Action Man - looks set to follow in the footsteps of Transformers and Battleships by spawning its own film after Hasbro signed a deal with production company Furla Films to come up with big-screen adventures based on the three toys.
Furla have confirmed a deal was signed this week and Monopoly will be the first film they put into production, with work expected to start in 2013.
Stars of the Monopoly movie are yet to be announced but Furla Films have revealed Sir Ridley Scott will be producing.
Randall Emmett, boss at Furla Films and its financing company Emmett, said the films will be family-friendly and are aiming for more success at the box office with them than Battleship.
Randall told the Los Angeles Times newspaper: "Everything is about how you approach it in price. We're excited to make these movies in budget ranges where we are comfortable."
