London - British royal officials say Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge have named their black cocker spaniel puppy Lupo.
The palace says William and the duchess both like the name, derived from the Latin word for wolf.
The royals got the puppy several months ago and he is keeping the duchess company while William is on military assignment as a Royal Air Force search and rescue helicopter pilot in the Falkland Islands.
Press officers had initially refused to provide the dog's name, citing the royal couple's privacy, but the information emerged on Tuesday while the duchess met children in Oxford, southern England.
She visited schools that use art therapy to help children with behavioural problems.
