Ad pokes fun at Mark Esterhuysen's rant

2011-09-29 13:59
Cape Town - Mark Esterhuysen's on-air f-bomb rant has inspired a new viral advert for low-cost airline 1Time, reports The Media Online.

The now axed Talk Radio 702 newsreader used the word "fuck" repeatedly during an early morning broadcast in which he slammed racism, capitalism, the AWB, Julius Malema and the state among other things.

Advertising agency Da Vinci Edison Bell Advertising Boutique has created a 22-second viral soundclip mimicing Mark Esterhuysen's broadcast, slamming everything from high airfares to airport queues.

The ad does however omit the word "fuck" and simply uses the term "f".

The ad agency told The Media Online that their client, 1Time, "love it!".

    my first thought: "meh"

  • KES86 - 2011-09-29 14:26

Very lame! The concept was maybe ok, but the actual ad is a sorry excuse!!!

  • ChrisG - 2011-09-29 14:27

Who was the drol at 1time that thought this was an excellent advert?

  • ThisGuy - 2011-09-29 14:32

Trying to use Nando's shock advertising as a precedent but didn't quite get it right. Kudos for effort tho...

  • SkandaalZA - 2011-09-29 14:35

    Poor taste

  • Jack_Parow - 2011-09-29 14:39

We have a new SA celebrity. Mark Esterhuysen. Yesterday I have not known about the silly little boy today he gets mentioned in the same sentence as another very big celeb Julius Malema He is all over the news now for doing something that is not really admirable. But I suppose if you want to be a celeb like Kurt Darren and all the other local flou Afrikaanse musiek boytjies you have to do whatever you can to lift your public profile ne. We are such a silly f- bunch in this country.

      Badballie - 2011-09-29 15:10

well actually Ben I think he at least had the guts to say what everyone else is thinking.

      Ben Fowler - 2011-09-29 16:28

Badballie. There comes certain responsibilities with being given a public forum such a radio presenter. You don't abuse it to benefit yourself (shameless self promotion) if you do not want the privilege anymore.

da vinci edison bell advertising? I do not think it is very far fetched to imagine that someone who actually signs off on a name like that, wouldnt say, sign off on a KFC advertising campaign on garbage trucks, or say, the f-bomb 1time add. Curiously, I heard that almost all 1time flights were delayed yesterday by 2.5 hours. Birds of a feather...

OMGreatness... What a Load of F~ing crap... And why the heck would an SA Airline need to have some idiotic American accented person doing an F~ing Stupid ad for them?? UUggghhh

  • John - 2011-09-29 16:15

Think Gus Silber tweeted it best...1time could have just taken a passenger recording from one of their flights! The worst flying experiences of my life have been on those kak red things.

      Cire - 2011-09-30 10:08

Disagree. I've always found 1Time to be excellent - never been bumped off a flight and prices are very reasonable compared to all other airlines.

  • Cheryl33 - 2011-09-29 16:48

    F the American accent....

  • Barry - 2011-09-29 17:03

this just proves my belief that the advertising industry in SA is suffering big time from the brain drain.

  • Blink - 2011-09-29 20:41

    ummm why the American accent???

  • preshen govender - 2011-09-30 07:42

Taking advantage of a foul mouthed kid throwing a silly tantrum - if he were just a little younger this would be child abuse!
