When it comes to royal etiquette, the Duchess of Sussex seems to be paving her own way. Meghan has often broken royal protocol with her sense of style and behaviour. She may not be an expert at following all the rigid rules and regulations but she’s certainly made royal life her own.
Here are 8 ways Meghan has broken protocol:
1. She celebrated the Christmas holidays with Prince Harry and the royal family just a month after the couple announced their engagement last year, even though royal protocol dictates that only spouses of royals can attend the queen’s festivities, reports insider.com
2. According to royal expert Victoria Arbiter, nude tights are a must for members of the royal family, but Meghan broke protocol when she appeared to be wearing strappy heels without any tights during her engagement announcement to Prince Harry, eonline reports.
3. In July Meghan was spotted wearing a cross-body bag while on a trip to Edinburgh, Scotland. Although there’s no steadfast rule when it comes to the type of bags royals may or may not wear, royals typically opt for clutch bags in a bid to avoid touching fans while greeting them, according to eonline.
4. Meghan and Harry both broke protocol when they appeared in public together donning black apparel from head to toe. This is usually discouraged as it’s typically reserved for funerals and other sombre events, reports eonline.
5. Royals are discouraged from signing autographs due to security reasons, but this hasn’t stopped Meghan from breaking the royal rule which saw her signing fans’ autographs on a trip to Cardiff, Wales, earlier this year, insider.com reports.
6. Although there’s no official rule restricting PDA, royals tend to refrain from being too affectionate. Meghan and Harry, on the other hand, seem to be the most openly affectionate couple in the royal family, refinery29 reports.
7. Meghan opted for a less conventional look when she decided to wear her hair in a loose casual bun. Royals, such as Kate Middleton, typically wear their hair in neat updos held in place by hairnets when they’re not sporting a sleek blowout, insider.com reports.
8. Meghan has embraced her fans on more than one occasion, which is usually off-limits due to security reasons, according to refinery29.
