André Schwartz leaves Phantom for good

Cape Town – Singer André Schwartz has decided to withdraw himself from the Johannesburg performances of The Phantom of the Opera.

The musical's Cape Town run came to an end on Sunday. The show will continue in Johannesburg at the Teatro at Montecasino on January 31.

Schwartz only performed six times in the Cape Town production.

In the press release distributed by impresario Pieter Toerien, Schwartz says that this was one of the most difficult decisions of his career.

Jonathan Roxmouth - who took over the role of Phantom from Schwartz in Cape Town after Schwartz strained his vocal chords – will continue to play the role in Johannesburg.
