Bobby van Jaarsveld snake pic causes uproar

Johannesburg - Afrikaans singer Bobby van Jaarsveld recently caused a furore when he posted a photograph of a giant python lying next to a dead warthog on his Facebook page, it was reported on Tuesday.

"My wife's parents found this on their farm outside Brits. The snake was electrocuted by the gate.... When they cut it open, they found the warthog inside," the singer wrote, according to Beeld.

More than 2000 people shared the photo and hundreds of fans commented on it, according to the newspaper.

When Petro Erasmus Nel asked him what kind of snake it was, Van Jaarsveld reportedly responded: "A biiiiig snake!"

Some people questioned the authenticity of the photograph.

'These are real photos'

"There's no sign of blood on the ground where it was cut open, drag marks indicating that the warthog was removed from the stomach, or signs of any kind of struggle," Charles Zeelie was quoted as writing, by Beeld.

Henriette van Vuuren, a resident of Brits, reportedly commented that the snake was actually found on 3 May, on the farm belonging to her boyfriend's neighbour.

In an update, Van Jaarsveld reportedly confirmed that the snake was indeed found on the farm next to his in-law's place and denied that the photograph had been digitally altered.

"... And these are real photos, why would I waste my time editing an image and lying about it? It was a 4.1m python, electrocuted on the fence. And when they cut it open, there was a big warthog inside. Believe it or not," he reportedly wrote.
