Drugs found in Jub Jub's urine sample

Johannesburg - A number of drugs were found in the urine samples of murder-accused Molema Jub Jub Maarohanye and Themba Tshabalala, the Protea Magistrate's Court heard on Tuesday.

Forensic analyst Jose van Rooyen, who conducted the analysis of the urine samples, told the court that the first sample was found to have cocaine, codeine, benzoyl codeine, paracetamol, diphenhydramine and cotamine.

The second sample contained traces of cocaine, codeine, benzoyl codeine, nicotine, caffeine and paracetamol.

"These are all drugs," she said.

Van Rooyen is a forensic analyst for the Department of Health at its forensic laboratory in Johannesburg.

Levels not shown

She said the urine samples did not show the levels of the substances present.

Maarohanye and Tshabalala were allegedly drag-racing when one of their Mini Coopers ploughed into a group of schoolchildren on Mdlalose Drive in Protea North on March 8, last year.

Four children died in the accident and two others suffered severe injuries, including brain damage.

Maarohanya and Tshabalala face charges of murder and attempted murder and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Under cross-examination on Tuesday, Van Rooyen said every piece of equipment she had used was certified and that a quality control test was conducted before the analysis started.

She told the court that she was a forensic analysis expert, but was not a toxicologist and could not say how the drugs would affect a person's behaviour.

Courtroom 6 at the Protea North court house filled up in the course of Tuesday's proceedings.

Relatives of the children who died wore T-shirts for the "Parents in Action" organisation, which they started against drug and alcohol abuse.

BIG surprise! - Not. jub jub and any other people driving like an idiots should go to jail - and they should change manslaughter charges to murder if they are found to be intoxicated with alcohol or drugs.

If any of these drugs are not 'accidental', they should lock him up for good. I will never understand why alcohol and drugs become extenuating circumstances- they should be AGGRAVATING ones. We all know the risk of driving intoxicated- there should be no excuse!

Why all this back-and-forth in court? This piece of useless cr@p killed innocent children, he was either drunk and / or used some sort of drug cocktail. So - why has he not been sentenced and sent to jail?

This is what happens to some people when they become famous. They sometimes have a superiority complex and a show offish attitude and they usually think that they are better and greater than others. They must face the full might of the law like all of us and face the consequences of their actions. When found guilty and sentenced only then do they realize how serious the chargers are. ........and Justice for ALL.

Let's hear what the clever-dick lawyer has to say about this. I can hear it already: "Eish, comrade judge, my esteemed client had coffee and cigarettes, this is how these chemicals came into the urine. The codeine and paracetomol were taken because he had a truth ache. The cocaine, well that's because he also drank a Coca-Cola. The diphenhydramine is a sleeping aid, which my client took the night before, and the other drugs can be found in his hair straightener."
