Ex-Miss SA tells of robbery

Pretoria – A former Miss SA has told how she thought her life was over when robbers attacked her and her four-year-old son in their Bryanston home in Johannesburg.

"When I felt the cold metal against my forehead, I thought my life was over," said Odette Scrooby-Joubert – who was crowned Miss SA in 1982, reports Volksblad.

Two men overpowered her and locked her and her son, William, in a room.

She said she was in the office of their home at about 19:30 on Wednesday afternoon when she heard voices.

A bag of cheap jewellery

"I was on the phone with my sister and the next moment there was a man next to me, telling me to drop the phone."

She was hit against the head and told to go to the safe to take out her jewellery.

"My wedding ring was on a table in the bedroom but fortunately there were enough of my son's toys to hide it and he didn't see it."

Scrooby-Joubert gave the robbers a bag of cheap jewellery as her expensive jewellery was hidden away.

"He took my wallet and cheque book and locked us in a room."

Scrooby-Joubert said she told her son the men had come to fix the TV.
