Cape Town - We were among the lucky few who got offered the opportunity to attend a dress rehearsal for Show Boat at the Artscape Opera House in Cape Town.

What a mind blowing experience it was.

Show Boat tells the story of 1880s Mississippi, a time when racial and social changes were making history.

The show deals with the haves and have-nots, the arrogance of the advantaged and their ignorance of poverty as well as racial discrimination and the historic fact that while change improves the lives of some, it usually passes by those who need it most.

Here are 6 reasons why you should totally go check out the show:

1) The fabulous costumes:

2) Of course the hats and umbrellas:

3) The captain, with over-the-top handgestures and amazing dance moves.

4) Don’t forget the good old sophisticated fair maidens.

5) Who does not love DANCING?!

6) And last but not least! The saving-a-damsel-in-distress scene never fails!

Show Boat will be showing at the Artscape opera house at these dates and times:

Friday 16 may 2014 @ 19h30

Saturday 17 May 2014 @ 13h00 and 18h00
