Madam & Eve musical under threat

Johannesburg - A lack of funds has stalled plans to produce a Madam & Eve musical, according to a report on Thursday.

The Star newspaper interviewed Lyall Ramsden who was hoping to have the musical theatre production of the cartoon strip premiered by the end of the year to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

But his bid for sponsorship for Madam & Eve, The Musical was turned down by the Department of Arts and Culture, and he was now hoping to secure funds from big corporates.

"Andrew Lloyd Webber is rich enough, let's stop importing music now and start exporting it," Ramsden told the daily.

If his plan comes together, the writers of the cartoon strip, Stephen Francis and illustrator Rico Schacherl, would also write the script for the musical.
