New Jozi hotspot Kong comes to life

Johannesburg - Joburg's party crowd came out in droves for the opening of Kong, a new nightclub in Rosebank's Design District.

Well, it's not strictly new; it's the reworked Latinova and still features the urban goth décor of dark drapery and whitewashed nude statues.

The gorgeous Lalla Hirayama was the hostess and did a stellar job while looking hot in her red bandage dress. That woman needs to win a style award already!

Vividly glamorous

Her man, club manager Chris Nkosi, told me he'd be "owning" Friday nights. And anyone who does the VIP club scene in Egoliwood knows Nkosi is not called The Mayor for nothing. The guy knows how to make a club sing.

The dress code was "vividly glamorous" and almost every woman in the place translated that as black, tight mini and heels. Oh, and it didn't help that some hostesses were in tight black minis too.

Lee-Ann and Nicky van der Walt were in matching black and looked extremely modelesque, while a reserved DJ Sbu was spotted at the bar in a conservative grey suit.

Singer Chad Saaiman was also hogging the bar, chatting away with a woman in black harem pants, a leopard-print velvet bodysuit and the most hideous nude platform heels I've seen this year.

The club was dark and there were too many people. Favourite spots were the vodka bars. The cheese-and-sweets table was a sight to behold, and had us nibbling on grapes at 03:00.

It was a fabulous way to herald a new party spot and a great weekend starter.
