Playboy SA ceases print, goes digital

Cape Town – Playboy SA is moving away from print with the release of their first fully digital edition in May, reports BizCommunity.

The decision to go digital was made last year July partly because "digital offers a more private readership experience" in a country where people still have reservations about buying an adult magazine publicly, said managing editor Tanya Goodman.

The US print edition of Playboy will still be imported and made available in a few select stores from the fourth quarter of the year while also distributing a special series of back copy collections from June onwards.

Editor-in-chief Charl du Plessis told BizCommunity: "The shift in strategy we introduced in the second half of last year is now bearing fruit.

"We have shifted from being a single-platform print medium towards a multi-platform vehicle offering the full 360 experience."

Sounds like an epic failure waiting to happen. What you had going for you was a book someone could keep under their bed with no internet, now what you have done is screwed him over and are competing with porn sites that offer their stuff for free.

What they are really saying is that sales have declined and it is no longer profitable to print a local magazine...The last resort is digital.

"We have shifted from being a single-platform print medium towards a multi-platform vehicle offering the full 360 experience." ? speak English man! Is it going to hamper or enhance the self-gratification process or not?
