SAHRC: 45 complaints against FHM model

Cape Town - The South African Human Rights Commission has said it received 45 complaints against model Jessica Leandra dos Santos regarding her racist tweet, but the commission has received none against actress Tshidi Thamana for a racist tweet posted in retaliation, reports IOL.

On Thursday, former FHM Model winner Dos Santos posted the following message on her Twitter account: "Just, well took on an arrogant and disrespectful kaffir inside Spar. Should have punched him, should have."

At the weekend Tshidi Thamana posted the following message in response:

"Dear Mr Peter Mokaba?? I wish all whites had been killed when you sang 'Kill the Boer', then we wouldn’t have to experience @JessicaLeandra’s racism."

Dos Santos' post has since been removed and she posted an apology on her website while Thamana's Twitter account has been deactivated.

Vincent Moaga, the spokesperson for the SAHRC, has expressed the commission's concern over the presence of discrimination on social media platforms.

IOL reports Moaga said: "The commission is currently processing several complaints relating to remarks that Ms Jessica Leandra dos Santos posted on Twitter. In addition, the commission has received complaints relating to racist remarks that have been made by others on Facebook."

On Monday Democratic Alliance spokesperson Mmusi Maimane also expressed the party's concern over the damage that has been done by the racist tweets. He offered his home as as a place for the two models to reconcile.
