Redpath to tour KZN to promote album

SINGER and songwriter Julian Redpath will be touring KwaZulu-Natal as part of a nationwide tour to promote his first full-length album, Maiden Light.

The tour will start in KZN and work its way through the Eastern Cape, into Cape Town and end in Johannesburg.

“This is a great opportunity for me as it is supported by Concerts SA through the Music Mobility Fund,” Redpath said of the tour.

“It is a celebration of my album Maiden Light. Chris Letcher, Guy Buttery and Clare Vandeleur were all instrumental in giving the album a distinct sound and depth and I’m very honoured to be joined by these incredible musicians on stage along the way.

“Clare will be joining me at all the performances on the tour which is really exciting as her cello brings something truly special to every show. Chris and Guy will be playing with me at select performances in Durban and Cape Town.”

Redpath is influenced strongly by the lineage of finger-style guitar playing that takes in everything from early Bob Dylan to Nick Drake.

He weaves a spell with his hands and voice that draws the listener deeper and deeper into his tales of love, searching, family and the land of his birth.

Maiden Light was constructed over three years with recording taking place on a farm in Dullstroom. The album was produced by Julian and Guy Buttery, mixed by Mark Hako and mastered by Simon Ratcliffe.

Considered to be one of South Africa’s brightest young talents, he received a coveted Standard Bank Ovation Award from the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in 2013 and 2014.
