Romanz singer arrested for speeding

Johannesburg - A singer from Afrikaans group Romanz was arrested for speeding while on his way to a performance, the Gauteng traffic police's high speed unit says.

Spokesperson Busaphi Nxumalu said: "A singer who forms part of the well known band, Romanz, was nabbed for speeding on Saturday whilst on his way to perform with his group at a wedding in Worcester.

"He was caught at 06:39 on the R21 near the Olifantsfontein offramp near Midrand doing 189km/h when a member of the Gauteng traffic police's high speed unit measured his speed with the moving violation recorder.

"He claimed that he was late for his flight at OR Tambo," she said.

The musician was taken to the Olifantsfontein police station where he was formally charged with reckless and negligent driving.

He was released on R1 000 bail and would appear in the Tembisa Magistrate's Court in a few days.
