SA celebs tweet ANCYL violence

Cape Town – In the wake of unrest and violent and rioting by ANCYL supporters outside Luthuli House in Johannesburg, the organisation and its leader Julius Malema has become a trending topic on Twitter.

Amongst the thousand of people taking to the social network to voice their opinions and concerns over the incident as it unfolds – are local celebrities who too have shared their thoughts on the matter.

Getroud met Rugby actor Izak Davel showed his amusement at a tweet by Ddisselblom band member and radio presenter Johrné van Huyssteen when he tweeted: "Whaaa Haaaa. RT @Johrne: Its National Malema day. Remember to wear your clown suit."

Gareth Cliff also exchanged jokes and opinions with fellow 5FM DJ and presenter DJ Fresh tweeting: "Ha ha ha RT @DJFreshSA: Rocks tender RT @JCVisionary: Where did Malema's supporters find so many rocks 2 throw in the JHB CBD?"

He also posted the following tweet, noting that he agreed with the original tweeter: "@redithlabi Totally agree. ANCYL leaders won't intervene or take responsibility for violence, but they'll "distance themselves". Cowardly"

DJ Fresh has been quite vocal on his Twitter page, choosing mostly to add small replies to others' tweets. He did however make this statement: "i am yet to hear ANY organisation admit that it is THEIR members that got up to shit during a protest... #Cowards"

'A tear in Madiba's eye'

Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr has also chosen to mostly retweet news sources as the story unfolded, but added this to the conversation on Monday as a reply to another tweet: "@pro_afrikaans: 'Malema sê hy is die produk van God' Miskien toe God effe in gedagte was."

Afrikaans comedian, actor and TV host Wicus van der Merwe added his view by simply tweeting: "I think I see a tear in Madiba's eye..." and later in a tweet addressed to President Jacob Zuma's Twitter account :"Hope you can see what happens when you don't act decisively! You make your bed..."
