Schools back for ‘Funk 2015’

2015-05-12 15:03

THE annual Midlands dance extravaganza, Funk, will be staged in the Hilton College Theatre on May 16, 18, 19 and 20.

Hosted by The Theatre — St Anne’s College and the Hilton College Theatre, the show will feature performances by pupils from St Anne’s College, Hilton College, Maritzburg College, Alexander High School, Russell High School, Howick High School, GHS, Epworth, The Wykham Collegiate, St Nicholas, Carter High, Maritzburg Christian School and The Lahl’umlenze Dance Initiative.

Funk has been staged for the past 16 years with the aim of uniting schools in working towards a common goal.

The dance show also gives drama students and their teachers the opportunity to create and rehearse pieces of dance theatre for public performance; and it enables young people to see that movement, dance and dance theatre is accessible to them and not only in the hands of professional adult dance companies.

Each school creates a six-minute piece of dance choreography integrating any type of musical or textual accompaniment.

Funk is not a competition, instead every piece on the programme is valued for its individual style. The highlight of the production is always the mass group finale, which sees all the schools together on the stage.

Performances of Funk 2015 are at 7.30 pm. Tickets are R66. To book go to www.hilton — Arts Editor publishes all comments posted on articles provided that they adhere to our Comments Policy.
