Johannesburg - Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr was fined R10 000 in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of reckless and negligent driving and exceeding the general speed limit, Beeld reported.
Hofmeyr was arrested in Bronkhorstspruit on the night of 19 December, and was released on bail of R500.
At the time, Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Busaphi Nxumalo said Hofmeyr was caught driving at 169km/h in an 80km/h zone.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page a day after his arrest, Hofmeyr said it was irresponsible to speed.
According to judge Elsie Schnetler, Hofmeyr showed remorse for his actions and she appreciated the way in which he handled the case. The singer's driving license was not suspended.
