Cape Town – It has come to light that Binneland star Lindie Stander's suicide attempt could be due to her recent split from her fiancée, reports Beeld.
Stander got engaged to Lucille Koen, 33, in November 2010, but Koen broke it off with Stander in April 2012.
A close friend of the couple told Beeld that they had a turbulent relationship and often left each other during this time.
"The final break came shortly before KKNK this year. Lindie was totally devastated. I believe this setback opened old wounds again," the friend said.
30 scripts
Stander and her character of Nurse Elise in Binneland on kykNET will be permanently written out of the weekday soap produced by Stark Films, after she made a suicide attempt by allegedly cutting one of her arms open to the bone.
According to Beeld, some believe that a recent traumatic storyline in Binneland, which saw Stander play the lead role, could've also upset her psychologically. In the role, Stander, as sister Elise Kruger, had to come face to face with her uncle, who sexually abused her as a child.
Stander is currently under evaluation in the psychiatric unit of the Helen Joseph hospital, and was still under heavy sedation on Sunday.
Meanwhile, producers have started rewriting 30 scripts since Friday to make provision for recent developments.
