Cape Town – Funny man Trevor Noah was named Comic of the Year at the annual Comics' Choice awards ceremony in Johannesburg on Tuesday, reports Timeslive.co.za
The Crazy Normal comedian, who is currently based in the US, beat the likes of Nick Rabinowitz, Loyiso Gola and Riaad Moosa to get first prize.
The Comic of the Year award is given to a comic who has performed professionally for at least four years and has made the most impact in the last year.
This was the second Comics' Choice awards held to celebrate the country's best comedians.
Audience Choice award
According to Timeslive, this years' ceremony was a huge improvement and saw more celebrities in attendance.
Other winners at the awards were Joe Parker who followed last year's winner, Mel Miller, in getting the Lifetime Achiever Award.
Dillian Oliphant was named Newcomer of the Year beating Jason Goliath, Donovan Goliath and Monique Nortjie to the prize.
The Audience Choice award, which is voted for by the public, was taken by Sifiso Nene ahead of the likes of Trevor Noah and Deep Fried Man.
