Cape Town - Tributes for violinist Annake de Villiers have poured in from across the country after her body was found in her father's house near Steynsrus in the Free State.

The 35-year-old musician was found with one gunshot wound to the head just after 13:00 on Tuesday.  OFM reported that a gun was found near her body.

Captain Rulene Kühn said no note was found at the scene and the police do not suspect any foul play.

De Villiers' father confirmed that she committed suicide after a long battle with depression.

De Villiers was the ex-wife of opera singer Jannie Moolman. The pair announced their plans to divorce in 2010.

The following message was posted on the Jannie Moolman Fan Club Facebook page:

"Ons harte is seer oor Annake de Villiers, ons dink aan haar familie en vriende. Mag sy die mooiste viool klanke speel in die hemel. Dankie vir al die musiekkonserte, lekker tye, vir jou gaan ons mis."

(Our hearts are sore over Annake de Villiers, we're thinking of her family and friends. May she play the most beautiful violin sounds in heaven. Thank you for all the concerts, good times, we'll miss you.)

Singer Brandon October tweeted: "RIP Annake de Villiers. Ons gaan jou en jou musiek baie mis. Ek hoop jy't jou vrede gevind." (RIP Annake de Villiers. We're going to miss you and your music. I hope you found your peace.)

Afrikaans singer Corlea Botha also posted her  condolences on her Twitter page: "Wow... So geskok. Liefde en vrede aan Annake de Villiers se familie." (Wow... so shocked. Love and peace to Annake de Villiers' family.)
