Xolani Gwala leaves SAfm for 702

Johannesburg - Talk show host Xolani Gwala will take over Talk Radio 702's afternoon drive show from next month, the station announced on Wednesday.

Current host David O'Sullivan would move to the early breakfast show from 04:00 to 06:00 on 702 and 567 CapeTalk, while Ray White, who was hosting the show, returned to Eyewitness News, the station said in a statement.

Talk Radio 702 station manager Pheladi Gwangwa said she was "thrilled Xolani is coming home".

Discussions with him had started as far back as a year ago.

Gwala is currently the host of the morning show on SAfm.

The move came as O'Sullivan asked for more flexibility to deal with a personal issue regarding his son, who is autistic.

O'Sullivan said: "My son requires more attention as he gets older, and this move allows me to dedicate more time to him and his needs, while still allowing me to pursue my passion of being on the radio."

Gwangwa said the changes were part of the radio station's long-term strategy to remain relevant to its audience.
