Charlie Vundla's new film makes its debut

Johannesburg - Tuesday night saw the cast of The Tribe, South African-based director Charlie Vundla’s new film, step onto the red carpet for the film’s local premiere at Nu Metro in Hyde Park.

Produced in association with the department of trade and industry, and shot on a small budget on 5th Street in Melville, the film stars Vundla as a man whose life falls apart when his wife, played by Terry Pheto, leaves him for another man. He reconnects with his high school friend, played by Louis Roux, but things get complicated when his wife comes back.

Vundla is the son of longtime Generations: The Legacy and Rhythm City producer Mfundi Vundla.

Charlie was born in New York and has lived in South Africa, but returned to the US for his tertiary education. Terry Pheto has just returned from the US.

“Back in the Republic just in time for my latest movie premiere tomorrow. Can’t wait! #TheTribeMovie,” the Tsotsi actress tweeted on Monday.

Dressed in a black blazer and a beanie, Vundla took questions from a few journalists while guests sipped on wine and tucked into samosas and biltong.

The film has already been screened at several festivals, including the New York African Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, the Chicago International Film Festival and the Africa International Film Festival.
