When South African Idols announced the top nine recently, unfortunately KZN born and raised constant Mthokozisi Ngcobo (20) did not make it. Even though the star did not walk away with the grand title of Season 14 Idols winner, he walks away with more pairs of shoes.

When Mthokozisi auditioned for Idols a few months ago in Cape Town he was wearing flip flops. When Somizi asked him about his shoe ‘swag’ he admitted to only having two pairs of shoes. One pair of shoes was for church and the flip flops for daily usage. Somizi challenged Dj Cleo, who was a guest judge, to donate five pairs of shoes to the singer. He tells Move! he is neither disappointed nor sad about not making to the next round but just numb. He also teased that he now has more pairs of shoes thanks to the show. “I am so happy about the experience, and the new pairs of shoes,” he laughs.

With so much talent we ask Mthokozisi what is next for him. The optimistic contestant says, “I can’t put my finger on it but you have not seen the last of me. My brand is about to really grow.” The young man says what he will always remember about Idols is that it isn’t just about the talent but the hard work too. “I have also learnt to push my boundaries, and still make sure I am comfortable,” he says.

On his departure Mthokozisi thanked Idols for the opportunity that changed his life and the sponsors of the show. “The experience is priceless I can’t appreciate it enough. I am grateful to the show. I’m also grateful to Telkom, they hooked me up with a new phone,” he says with glee.
