Cape Town - Meghan, Duchess of Sussex – the newest addition to the British royal family – could soon be calling Queen Elizabeth by a nickname.

The 36-year-old, who refers to husband Prince Harry’s grandmother as Your Majesty accompanied with a curtsey, could call the monarch something less formal once all the royal formalities are out the way, Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, revealed to Grazia.

For now, “it’s Ma’am, thrown into the conversation as many times as possible,” Seward says.

But Seward further reveals it might eventually be shortened to “Mama”, when she gets as close to Her Majesty as the late Princess Diana did.

“This can be shortened to Mama, when Meghan gets to know her as Diana did. But never her pet name Lilibet, which is reserved for very close family and friends,” she says.

And it seems the duchess might get to call the queen by her nickname sooner than we think.

Queen Elizabeth (92) recently invited Meghan to accompany her on the royal train – an honour usually reserved for senior family members – to Cheshire.

The close bond between the queen and the duchess became evident while they attended an opening ceremony for Mersey Gateway Bridge.

“The queen is quite stoic; she didn’t make a fuss of Meghan, which can make someone feel anxious. She’s clearly completely confident about Meghan’s level of confidence,” body language expert Judi James told the Daily Mail.

“They were very relaxed. At one point they were giggling like teenagers together. The queen looked delighted to be with her.

“The queen was doing everything right for her and made her look like a granddaughter or a friend of whom she’s very fond.

“She was almost identically fun-loving and relaxed with her first outing with the Duchess of Cambridge – that’s what it reminded me of. It looks as though it really brought out the queen’s fun side.”

The queen also gave the former Suits star a pair of delicate pearl earrings, which Meghan wore to the event, ELLE reports.
