Cape Town - Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green has resumed her medical studies at the University of Cape Town and despite feeling a bit overwhelmed she’s glad to be back.
Tamaryn (24), who was in her final year when she crowned in 2018, returned to the campus a month ago.
A year ago she had to pack up and move Johannesburg to be able to meet her duties during her reign as Miss South Africa.
Originally from Paarl, Tamaryn stayed in a student’s residence until just before the Miss SA competition.
"Tamaryn put her studies on hold for a year but always planned to resume in April 2019," Zoleka Skweyiya, the communications manager of Sun International, licence holder of the Miss South Africa competition, told YOU earlier.
Tamaryn recently shared a picture of her back on campus with her Instagram followers.
"I’ve almost finished my first round back at university. It’s a reason to smile," she wrote with her post.
"I was excited and anxious to return to my medical studies. I’ve been away for about a year and wondered if I’d retained my knowledge and skills. I can now confirm that most of it is still there! I just had to dig deep.
"I must admit, in the past four weeks I’ve had moments of feeling very overwhelmed. Not only because of my medical studies, but also because of my Miss SA duties. But it’s actually normal and I expected it. God is good," she wrote.
Former Miss SA Jo-Ann Strauss was among Tamaryn’s 301 000 Instagram followers who congratulated her.
"Well done @tamaryngreen, super-excited for you," Jo-Ann wrote.
"You really are an inspiration," another of her followers wrote.
Although studying now, Tamaryn will retain her title until handing over to her successor later this year.
The pageant organisers say her Miss SA duties will be limited so she can focus on her studies.
"She still have some duties to perform, but far fewer," Skweyiya said.
Tamaryn plans to finish her medical studies this year and in future would like to specialise in paediatrics.
"I’m very fond of kids," she told YOU earlier.
