Cape Town - Selena Gomez has made a new best friend!

The 25-year-old songstress participated in WE Day – an event that honours youth making a difference in their communities – in Los Angeles on Thursday, reports E! Online.

The Wolves singer shared the stage with Nellie Mainor, a little girl who’s dealt with a long list of serious health issues, including a rare kidney disease.

"Last year I had a kidney transplant and it was weird," Selena said. "It was weird but hard."

The singer, who wore a black V-neck midi dress with suede heels, then introduced the brave youngster to the crowd.

"Do you know how much I've admired you these past couple of days?" Selena asked the little girl before embracing her.

"Hold my hand. I'm needy!" the Same Old Love singer also teased with a laugh.

According to ELLE, the former Disney actress took pictures with her fans and shared some words of wisdom for their future.

On the event’s "I Believe I Can" statement board she wrote, “I believe I can leave no one behind. We are THE change! Choose to see the goodness of the land of the living."

Selena, who’s been battling with lupus, secretly underwent a kidney transplant in May last year.

The singer’s best friend Francia Raisa, who donated a kidney to her, revealed in an interview with W Magazine that Selena almost died during the surgery after her artery broke.

"Selena did have a complication, too. A few hours after our surgery, I woke up and had a text from her that said, 'I’m really scared. My kidney was very active, and when it turned I broke an artery,'" Francia said.
