Cape Town - Whether you loved him or loathed him, there’s no denying that industrial engineer Jacques Burger (27) kept his fellow castaways on their toes – and viewers on the edge of their seats.

The Pretoria native had audiences glued to their TV screens with all his sneaky moves, wise cracks and well-earned advantages in M-Net’s local hit series Survivor SA: Island Of Secrets.

This week, however, the self-proclaimed Survivor super-fan was sent packing, making him the 15th person to be voted off the show and the seventh member of the jury.

"I wouldn’t change anything about how I played the game because I think I played a great game. Every single day you’re forced to make decisions and you make those decisions based on the information you have at that moment," Jacques tells YOU.

"I can’t look back otherwise I’ll go mad."

The 27-year-old played the game with gusto from the get go and says his strategy was to make a good connection and find someone he could trust.

While he was never scared to ruffle feathers and "say it as it is", especially at Tribal Council, Jacques reveals he wasn’t surprised when he was sent home.

"To be honest, I was actually emotionally prepared to go home and I was at peace with being voted off.

"Every time you walk into Tribal Council you’re reminded that it could be your last."

While events videographer Rob Bentele and online magazine owner Nicole Capper appear to be running the show at the moment, Jacques believes radio presenter Mike Venter will be crowned this season’s sole survivor.

"If players are smart, they’ll vote him out because he definitely seems to be a fan favourite."

After playing a riveting game, Jacques says being on the show has made him realise what’s important in his life.

"You begin to realise that family is more important than the trivial things in life like buying the latest car or chasing material possessions."

Tune in to Survivor SA: Island of Secrets Thursdays at 19:00 on M-Net (DStv 101).
