Cape Town - The countdown to the South African Idols finals may have just started for Thato and Yanga, but the road has sadly come to an end for Thando Mngomezulu.
Throughout the season the 19-year-old from Alberton, near Johannesburg in Gauteng, has been described as incredibly shy and with a powerful voice.
She’s had to dig deep to come out of her shell and reveal her talent to South Africa.
Although it’s been what she describes as a “wonderful journey”, fans had to say goodbye to Thando on Sunday night, as the top two Idols finalists were announced.
We caught up with her to talk about her Idols journey.
How do you feel?
“I’m feeling very relived. I feel like a lot of weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I’m actually happy. For some odd reason, I’m happy.
“Knowing the person that I am, I expected to faint on the stage and cry but I’m actually happy.”
Did you expect to make it as far as you have?
“No. I’ve been shocked every week because every week I’d tell myself I’m not gonna go through [to the next round].”
What’s been the highlight of your Idols journey?
“It has to be Dubai. I’ve never been out of the country before so it was a great experience. I’m so thankful to my supporters, everyone who voted and all the love.”
Anything you want to say to yourself?
“I’m so proud of you, girl! You’re so strong and I’m really proud of you.”
