Johannesburg - While it looks like the Duchess of Sussex (37) has adapted well to being part of the royal family, gaining favour with many key members, including Queen Elizabeth II, she seems to have ruffled a few feathers among royal staff.
Since the former actress married Prince Harry (34) on 19 May, a total of six royal aides have resigned from their posts, the latest being her personal assistant – known only as “Melissa” – who left after only six months of service, Daily Mail reports.
“It's a real shock, why would she want to leave such a prestigious job so soon?” a royal insider remarked.
Royal biographer Robert Jobson alleges in his new book, Charles At Seventy, that in the days leading up to the Meghan and Harry’s wedding, the then groom-to-be became very temperamental with staff members, even shouting at them, Express reports.
“Raising his voice on occasion, Harry would insist: ‘What Meghan wants, she gets’,” Jobson wrote in the book.
The royals have yet to release a statement about Melissa’s exit, but a source from the palace had kind words to say about Meghan’s former assistant.
“Melissa is a hugely talented person,” they said.
“She played a pivotal role in the success of the royal wedding and will be missed by everyone in the royal household,” they added.
Melissa wasn’t the only staff member to resign this year – royal director of communications Sally Osman left earlier this year, as did the queen’s media secretary, Steve Kingstone, and the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall’s personal secretary, Mark Leishman, Insider reports.
Meghan and Harry’s secretary, Australian Samantha Cohen (49), will reportedly also be leaving Kensington Palace soon, after almost 20 years of working for the royals.
Samantha started her job at the Buckingham press office eventually becoming the queen’s personal secretary, News.com.au reports.
Her exit comes after Harry’s “right-hand man” Edward Lane Fox, believed to be in his late thirties, resigned after being employed with the royal family for more than 15 years.
