Cape Town - Nicky Bella was reportedly the one to call it quits with the “love of her life”.
An insider recently revealed to Us Weekly that the 34-year-old wrestler ended her six-year relationship with John because it was draining.
“The things he’s been saying on television and in the press recently hurt Nikki,” a close source said.
“She’s in a place where she’s just exhausted by some of the things going on in the relationship. John is the love of her life [and] she adores him.
“They still speak. It’s just very hard. But right now she has to focus on herself,” the insider continues.
The couple, who were set to tie the knot soon, announced the end of their relationship on Sunday evening.
"After much contemplation and six years of being together Nikki Bella and John Cena announced today their decision to separate as a couple," a statement on Nikki’s Instagram read.
"While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives."
On Monday, John Cena took to Twitter to break his silence on the heartbreaking split.
“Hardship, loss and humility are extremely difficult waters to navigate, but perseverance thru them builds a strength to withstand anything life throws your way,” John wrote.
According to People, the WWE stars’ wedding was set to take place in Mexico on 5 May.
“I want the day we get married to be special, not like it’s another appearance,” Nikki had said previously. “I don’t want it to be like, ‘We only have two days to do this.’ I want to enjoy it. I want to enjoy it in the weeks going into it, and also the weeks after.”
