THE tragic stories in the news may get too much at times. The drama and suspense of your favourite soapies may be exhausting as well. Lifestyle and entertainment shows are a good escapism when you feel you want to be inspired and entertained.

THE HIGH LIFE WITH TOP BILLING

Every Saturday evening just after 6pm on SABC3, viewers get to see how the rich and famous live, thanks to Top Billing. The show is the longest running entertainment and lifestyle television programme in South Africa.  It is popular for showing high class living in architecture, décor, fashion, travel and other luxuries that most people aspire to have. Both local and international celebrities get to share their stories on how they’re living their best lives. Top Billing is also synonymous with cracking the invite to A-list parties such as fashion weeks, celebrity weddings and music festivals. The show’s various presenters bring viewers captivating stories and breath-taking travels.

SELIMATHUNZI HELPS TO FULFILL DREAMS

Selimathunzi is another long-running magazine show. It has taken viewers from high-end fashion shows to helping young girls with dresses for their matric dance. As much as the show is about celebrities, the viewers are as much a part of it. Duku Duku, as the show is affectionately known by its SABC1 viewers, has made many dreams come true. Viewers of the show are able to write in to request something as small as professional make-up for an event, a lunch with their favourite celebrity, matric dance dress or even a date with a celeb. The presenters and crew travel to that area to make it happen. Every Tuesday evening at 7pm viewers get to sit, relax and say Duku Duku with Siphesihle Vazi, Khanya Mkangisa and a guest presenter.

THE PRIDE OF VENDA AND TSONGA PEOPLE

The show, Nhlalala Ya Rixaka, is broadcast on Tuesday evenings at 8.30pm on SABC2. It gives a glimpse into the lives of Venda and Tsonga people who live around the country. Presenters of the show, Sho Madjozi and Tshepang Selapyana, travel around the country to document the lives of Venda and Tsonga people whose careers have made them relocate to other parts of the country. The person featured on the show gets to share their life story from humble beginnings in Limpopo to the big city lights of Joburg, Durban, Cape Town or Port Elizabeth. Wherever they are, Sho and Tshepang will find them. The show was initially presented by actor, Jude Tshisevhe, best known for his role as Rudzani on the SABC2 soapie, Muvhango. It has since had changes in presenters.
