Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is a self-proclaimed foodie so it’s no surprise that her first charitable venture is focused on food.

On Monday 17 September the Royal Foundation released a short video clip showing Meghan assisting a group of women who were affected by the Grenfell Tower fire, People reports.

The 37-year-old has been making regularly trips to the Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre in West London where she’s helped the women to cook, The Times reports.

“In January 2018 as I was settling into my new home of London I met a group of women whose community had been affected by the Grenfell Tower,” Meghan explains in the video.

“They’d decided to get together to cook fresh food for their families and their neighbors . . . And so, for two days every week, these women were able to cook and share their delicious recipes together.

“I immediately felt connected to this community kitchen. Like these women, I’m passionate about food and cooking as a way of strengthening communities.”

More than 700 people were killed when a fire broke out in the Grenfell Tower block in North Kensington on 14 June 2017.

Meghan, who first visited the centre in January, suggested they compile a community cookbook with 50 of their favourite recipes.

The women, who are from different backgrounds, came together to share their recipes and cook together twice a week, according to the Royal Foundation’s website.

“Soon there were women from different cultures all cooking, swapping recipes, talking and laughing,” the foundations page read.

“As they cooked they began to connect, heal and look forward and have continued to cook together twice a week.

“This community of women became known as the Hubb Community Kitchen – Hubb means ‘love’ in Arabic.”

The cookbook, Together: Our Community Cookbook, was released this week and features a foreword written by Meghan.

Several of the duchess’ close friends have shared their support for the former actress.

Tennis star Serena Williams, who’s been friends with Meghan since 2010, wrote a heartfelt message on Instagram for her long-time pal.

“I used to call you Meghan (and I still do) but dear Duchess of Sussex, your first project, Together, a cookbook bringing women of all cultures together, I couldn’t be more excited about it and proud of you. It’s beautiful – diversity, inclusivity, coming together in grief or joy – there’s just so much love. Link in bio to learn more and how you can get a copy!”

Quantico star Priyanka Chopra also wrote a sweet message on Instagram, “So proud of you for this new endeavour, Meghan. This is everything you always stood for. Women supporting women. Supporting communities. Bringing togetherness. Here you do it again . . . Keep making the world smile, babe!”
