A woman who’s been accused of hacking into Selena Gomez’s emails could be sentenced to up to nine years in jail.

Susan Antrach (21), from New Jersey in the US, allegedly gained access to the Same Old Love singer’s private iCloud and Yahoo accounts.

Antrach is believed to have gained access to the singer’s accounts by correctly answering her security questions, using information she’d found on the internet about Selena, Metro reports.

On Friday 13 July, Antrach was charged by the Los Angeles County Prosecutor with five counts of identity theft, five of fraud and one of accessing and using data without Selena’s consent, ABC News reports.

The prosecutor handling the case claims Antrach accessed the former Disney actress’ accounts numerous times in 2015 and 2016 and posted private content from her accounts online, according to Cosmopolitan.

In 2017 nude pics of Selena’s then-boyfriend, Justin Bieber – taken during their trip in 2015 to Bora Bora – were posted on Selena’s Instagram account. The account was then deactivated until the pictures had been removed.

The snaps were leaked around the time Antrach had access to Gomez’s account.

The alleged hacker is due in court on 27 August. Her bail has been set at $250 000 (around R3,3 million), Metro reports.
